Who are the people behind Heartsease?

Nadine and Andrew are a mother and son team with a passion for creating cakes that taste as good as they look, are beautiful, unique to the client and have a wow factor to them.

They started creating cakes for other people’s special occasions in 2006 so they have seen many styles come and go, from delicate piped work to sculpting and airbrushing cakes and so much more. This has the advantage that they have a wide range of skills to bring to designing and creating cakes for all occasions.

 Frequently Asked Questions

 Are cakes delivered or collected?

It is common for most smaller cakes for birthdays etc to be collected, whilst bigger or more complex luxury bespoke cakes and nearly all wedding cakes are delivered.

The team are used to travelling with these delicate works of art and have with them the necessary tools etc to deal with any issues that arise. Often these bigger cakes will need staging, and most people don’t want the worry and pressure of doing this on the day.

How do we save the date?

As soon as you know you want to commission us to create your cake, then reserve the date let us know so we can pencil you in. This often happens before the consultation can take place and as we only work on one wedding cake a week, naturally we fill up quickly.

At this same time your consultation date can be booked, following that you will need to confirm your booking and pay your deposit.

What can you pay for a cake and how are payments made?

One could say how long is a piece of string! There are so many different, amazing, design options, the size, complexity and level of decoration that there is no quick answer.

However, to give you an idea of what you might spend to have us create the cake of your dreams, you are starting at £5 per person and then it depends on the decoration etc.

An average bespoke wedding cake can range between £500 - £1,000 + while an average bespoke birthday cake can range between £150 - £300+.

 What services are available?

Every client is different and what they will want from their cake provider will be just as varied.

You can simply make contact (free online consultations available), book and then collect your cake, often used for straight forward birthday cakes.

Alternatively, you may prefer to enjoy the experience by having an in-person consultation, discuss your needs, most commonly used for weddings, corporate or big events, when the design etc will be more complex.

Then receive sketches of your cake and add further input. You may want the team to liase with your florist, planner etc to continue a theme.

You may want a site visit if special locations etc may be relevant to the design, your cake hand delivered by us to your venue and then all set up for you.

You may wish to be updated during the process, or be surprised on the day.

You choose the level of service you want, and we provide it.

What things you need to consider before contacting us?

Before booking your consultation, there are several points for you to consider and ideally passed on to us prior to the consultation so that we can be organised and able to offer you the best service possible.
Numbers - how many people you are wanting to give cake too.
Size of the slice - a wedding slice is either 2 inches, by 1 inch by 4 inches tall. A desert slice is 3 inches, by 1 inch by 4 inches tall.
Design/theme – do you have anything in particular you want on your cake or shape of cake, perhaps a colour or theme to your big day.

Do you want you sugar work flowers to match your bouquet, if so, what flowers will be used and also check with your florist that they will be available.
Allergies – do you have anyone with food allergies, like Gluten, Dairy, Nuts or any Vegans.
Budget – do you have a budget? It may sound silly but knowing it will help us to help you, we don’t automatically use all your budget.
Flavours – which of our signature flavours are you interested in and which you would like to try or do you have something special in mind.

Why not book one of our cake taster boxes, which can be sent to you, and you can try at home and make your decision with others there to share.
